Slippery Elm

The shredded inner bark of this tree is used for irritated sore throats, coughs, and laryngitis. Slippery elm bark may aid in slow digestion and other gastrointestinal ailments. Externally can be used to soften skin and ease the discomforts of minor burns and scrapes.

Ulmus fulva and Ulmus rubra are taxonomically the same species. There is no difference in the trees or the uses of the bark other than their taxonomic name.
